Original Art Doll Collecting - What should I buy??
*Clay: This is an original sculpture that will not ever be reproduced. It is a OOAK (One of a Kind), meaning he/she is the ONLY ONE in the entire world.
Clay babies are intended for the adult collector and not intended as a child’s toy. It is extremely fragile and can cause a choking hazard in small children. These dolls are meant for display.
*Resin: This is a reproduction of an original clay sculpture. Usually in a limited edition. It is a very detailed and hard material. It is not very breakable…but care should still be taken. Meant for display purposes. It can be handled by small children with adult supervision.
*Silicone: This is a reproduction of an original clay sculpture and cast into a Limited Edition of anywhere from 5-15, with 1 artist proof. This type of baby is not breakable whatsoever. It is very bendable and flexible. These are the best babies to pick up and snuggle.
Which one should I buy?If you are looking for something for display purposes only, then either Clay or Resin will do. These are great for passing down as a family heirloom.
If you are looking for the “touch” and “feel” of a real baby and be able to love and snuggle the baby, then silicone is the medium for you. Silicone babies are the most durable of the 3 materials. Their hair is meticulously rooted and you can even gently wash their hair from time to time. Very poseable and soft to the touch…silicone is by far my favorite of the 3!

Hey Miss Jamie -- I must say that now that I have used and felt silicone I don't think that i will go back. Yes I will still use clay, and maybe vinyl every now and then, but Silicone is amazing plain and simple. It's durable, soft, and holds the greatest weight. So when you are holding your doll in your arms your mind is almost tricked into thinking that you are actually holding a real baby. It's truly an amazing material. Can't wait to hold your newest creation - Miss Maddie. Peace, Jenn
